MACHINE KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS – ONLINE RECORDED WORKSHOP

£55.00

Two session online workshop digital download

Description

Suitable for beginners, those looking to refresh their skills, or wanting a different perspective of basic techniques, this online workshop will give you a firm understanding of the basics in machine knitting.  With a focus on experimentation and play, I show you how to use simple techniques & different combinations of yarns to create a huge range of interesting textures & patterns, whilst covering all the basics.  I share my thought processes when designing fabrics and ideas for combining yarns and techniques to create new fabrics.

The workshop is a recording of a previous live session- lecture style, sent as a download.  Using pre-recorded videos I teach the techniques & show samples of fabrics as well as answering any questions via email.  You will receive both the recording of the session & the pre-recorded videos as well as written notes.  This workshop is what I would usually teach in person over two days for £200, so this represents excellent value for money.

During this workshop you will learn a variety of techniques such as;

  • casting on/off
  • colour changing (striping)
  • lace holes & ladders
  • manual tucks for texture
  • punchcards for pattern- fairisle, weaving, hold, slip & tucking
  • increasing & decreasing
  • combining different yarns
  • You will also learn how to solve and avoid common problems, useful tips for steaming & making tension squares.

I have a large range of samples to show & talk through how some of them were done, as well as other examples of fashion knitwear.  I also share my favourite yarn suppliers & other helpful links.

What you get…

  •  a recording of a live Zoom workshop, with inspiration for each technique, video with commentary & lots of examples of each technique through fabrics.
  • the individual pre-recorded videos with commentary to work through at your own pace
  • written instructions
  • future support via email for any questions related to the videos

The idea is that the online workshop provides a lot of information  & inspiration that you can work through at your own pace.

Running time approx 3.5 hours.

I teach on a Brother KH890 machine, but almost all of the techniques are transferable to most machines including knitmasters & silvereeds.  If you’re not sure if your machine will work then please get in touch.

I’m so excited to show you what these machines can do!

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me  : studio@amberhards.co.uk

Please use a working email address to receive information & the digital files.

I highly recommend this workshop for both full beginners but also more experienced machine knitters as it is covering both all the basics but Amber will also show and explain how to experiement with material and stitches in a very free and creative way.
I’ve personally followed the workshop over a couple of weeks (it’s about 3 hour long in total) while practising along on my machine and it was very nice to be able to learn and experiment at the same time pausing the videos when I needed to or going back to certain parts when needed.

  2. Hope (verified owner)

Absolutely fantastic workshop, I was ready to throw my knitting machine out before taking Amber’s class.
The class structure has been well thought through and Amber has put a lot of time into resources that go alongside the recordings.
I didn’t have the same machine and she went out of her way to find/highlight the differences to make sure I could still do the class with my machine. She was also very lovely to deal with via email and patient with all my questions.
I loved that Amber taught the techniques and showed some samples but didn’t apply any limitations to the techniques so I can try them for myself in multiple applications.
I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone with a knitting machine, it is a great contemporary machine knitting class with a treasury of techniques and applications.

I found Amber’s teaching really good. Her very clear instructions were at an appropriate level for beginners, from someone who obviously has loads of professional experience. She was able to help each individual in the workshop with whatever they found tricky as a new learner and managed to get us all on track! Very skilful teacher.
What I found most inspiring, were Amber’s knit samples. She talked us through processes and materials for each sample. Truly inspiring and a real treat!

Amber’s recorded machine knitting workshops are amazing. I have bought all four of Amber’s workshops and it is unbelievable the amount of knowledge I have acquired. She shows you inspiring samples of each technique and has lots of swatches to get your brain thinking. I didn’t think half of what she shows was possible on a domestic knitting machine. I would highly recommend these workshops, you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait for her new workshops in the Autumn.

I needed to learn somehow to use a knitting machine for a project and this workshop was all worth it! besides the basics, Amber provides some of her personal tips and tricks. Great workshop!

I have had my knitting machines for years and fiddled around on them and actually made some extremely wearable and unusual sweaters but this course has shown me how amazing knitting can be. Amber explains everything calmly and her samples are works of art. She was so helpful when I made a mess of downloading. I seriously recommend this course. It’s BRILLIANT and she’s a knitting genius! Thank you Amber. Sally
