Knitting with light #1- Cyanotype Knit Lace print on Archival Paper

This cyanotype captures the structure of knitted lace in vivid shades of blue and white. Made by laying machine-knitted swatches in various fibres and lace techniques onto light-sensitive paper and exposing them to the sun, every stitch becomes a line of light, preserved in indigo. The original print is then scanned in to be reproduced as a high quality print.

These works are part of my ongoing exploration of knitting as both fabric and image. What begins as loops of yarn transforms into a print — showing the rhythm of lace in an entirely new way. Each design carries the chance variations of sunlight and the handmade fabric that created it, showing the different fibres and delicate stitches perfectly.

Paper: Printed on Master’s Edition archival paper — matte, uncoated, and softly off-white. The heavyweight 250 gsm stock is acid-free and FSC-certified, ensuring both museum-quality longevity and an environmentally conscious choice.
